Where to stay for Nairobi National Park
There is no KWS hotel, tented camp, campsite, or bandas inside the park right now. You sleep on the southern edge, in Karen or Langata, or on Mombasa Road for JKIA. We pick up from all of them. We do not own the lodges. Ask WhatsApp if you want a room requested.

Nairobi National Park is usually a day trip from a city hotel. If you want the night to feel like safari, book a park-edge lodge on the Mbagathi River: The Emakoko or Ololo. If you want JKIA plus a 06:00 drive, sleep on Mombasa Road. If you want Sheldrick and Giraffe Centre the same day, sleep in Karen or Langata.
Is there a hotel inside the park?
No. Kenya Wildlife Service does not currently run visitor rooms, tents, or campsites inside Nairobi National Park. Nairobi Tented Camp used to sit inside the western forest (about 2010 to 2020). It relocated. Some old pages still say "inside the park". Confirm the address before you pay. Public camping inside the park is not a current visitor product. Ignore older KSh 500 camping lists unless KWS confirms a site on eCitizen.
Three places to sleep
| Pattern | Where | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Park-edge lodges | Southern Mbagathi boundary: The Emakoko, Ololo, Masai Lodge | You want animals from the deck and a private or quiet gate. Transfer often drives through the park. |
| Karen and Langata | Giraffe Manor, Hemingways, Wildebeest Eco Camp, Tamarind Tree, Nairobi Tented Camp | Sheldrick 11:00, Giraffe Centre, Langata Main Gate. Leafy, 10-25 minutes to the gate. |
| Mombasa Road / JKIA | Eka Hotel, Emara Ole-Sereni, DoubleTree | Layover, East Gate, early flight. 10-20 minutes to JKIA. Skip if you need a 06:00 Langata start in heavy rain. |

Park-edge luxury: The Emakoko
The property the park-guide sites call the best hotel for Nairobi National Park. Ten rooms on the Mbagathi gorge, southern boundary. Founded by Anton and Emma Childs. Stone and wood, river views, pool on the cliff. Game drives can leave from a private park gate, so you skip Langata Road traffic. Airport transfers often cross the park: giraffe and zebra before check-in.
All-inclusive safari packages commonly bundle meals, selected drinks, morning and evening drives, and one JKIA or Wilson transfer. From about $380 (KSh 49,400) a night in quieter months, higher in peak. Park tickets may still sit outside the room rate. We pick up here for Sheldrick or a photography circuit if you do not want the lodge vehicle that day.
Park-edge farm: Ololo Safari Lodge
Twenty-acre farm on the same southern river line. Tented cottages under makuti, converted stables, family suites. Farm-to-table food. KWS names Ololo and Emakoko as the privately run stays that border the park. From about $350 (KSh 45,500). Good if you want a quieter, family lodge rather than a 10-room cliff hotel. Transfer from JKIA is often quoted around 45 minutes through the park.
Tented camp: Nairobi Tented Camp
This is the name everyone still searches. It was the only overnight camp inside the park. Gamewatchers / Porini now market a forest camp in Karen, about 8-9 km from Langata Main Gate, reopened 2025. Older booking sites still write "inside Nairobi National Park". We will not confirm an in-park tent until the property says so for your dates.
2026 bed-and-breakfast from about $105 (KSh 13,650) per person sharing, rising toward $130 (KSh 16,900) in festive weeks. Full-board quotes on other desks sit around $175 (KSh 22,750) to $190 (KSh 24,700). Game drives are often extra. We collect from the camp for a private park circuit.
Budget: Wildebeest Eco Camp
Langata gardens, about 10 minutes to Main Gate on Mokoyeti / Langata Road. Dorm from $40 (KSh 5,200), garden tent about $70 (KSh 9,100), family tent about $130 (KSh 16,900), cottage about $110 (KSh 14,300), deluxe safari tent about $180 (KSh 23,400). This is the backpacker and overland base the park-guide sites list next to Simba campsite and city guesthouses. Shared facilities on the cheap rooms. Fine for a 06:00 pickup.
JKIA and East Gate hotels
Eka Hotel sits on Mombasa Road. About 10 minutes from JKIA, 10-15 minutes from East Gate. Superior rooms from about $140 (KSh 18,200) bed and breakfast. The practical layover hotel.
Emara Ole-Sereni is the one with a pool that looks at the park. From about $180 (KSh 23,400). Same corridor as DoubleTree. Use these if your flight is the same day or the next dawn at East Gate. Do not sleep here if your only plan is a 06:00 Langata / Sheldrick day. Cross-town traffic wastes the cat window.
Karen luxury that is not the park
Giraffe Manor is a boutique house in Karen with resident Rothschild giraffe. From about $980 (KSh 127,400) and often waitlisted months ahead. It is not inside Nairobi National Park. The manor breakfast is the product. We still pick you up there for a real game drive in the park, which is a different herd of Maasai giraffe on open grass.
Hemingways Nairobi is the other Karen luxury base, from about $480 (KSh 62,400). House of Waine and Eden / Hemingways Eden Residence sit in the same belt. Good if you are combining Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Museum, and a park morning.
City hotels the park-guide sites also list
Mid-range names you will see on those pages: Tamarind Tree, The Boma, Tribe Hotel, Trademark Hotel, Nairobi Serena, Radisson Blu Upper Hill, Sarova Stanley, Hilton Nairobi. Luxury starting around $500 (KSh 65,000) on those lists is a city rate, not a park-edge lodge. We collect from all of them. Budget names they list besides Wildebeest: La Maison Royale and generic CBD guesthouses. Tell us the pin. A 06:00 Westlands pickup still works. A 06:00 Gigiri pickup is tight.
How stay and our safari fit
- Emakoko and Ololo often include their own game drives. Do not pay us for a dawn drive on the same morning unless you want a second vehicle for photography or a Sheldrick run.
- You book the room. We book the park vehicle. Two invoices, same as park tickets versus safari service.
- WhatsApp dates, names, and budget. We ask the lodge and send their quote. No card prepayment to us to hold a hotel.
- Guide name the night before. 06:00 from Karen, Langata, and park-edge. 05:30 from Westlands if traffic is ugly. JKIA hotels: East Gate circuit.
How to get there

Where to stay
