Short answer (updated October 2026): Main Gate is on Lang'ata Road, about 8 km from Nairobi's CBD, or 20 to 40 minutes by car depending on traffic. Our private tours include hotel pickup. You can also join the weekend drive from Kencom, take a taxi or ride app, or self-drive in a suitable vehicle.

| Way in | Where you start | Gate | Ticket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private safari pickup | Hotel or residence. JKIA on layovers | Main Gate from most of the city. East Gate from JKIA and Mombasa Road. | You buy the personal ticket. |
| Weekend game drive | Kencom, Nairobi CBD, or hotel pickup for KSh 1,500 | Main Gate | Personal ticket still required |
| Ride-hail or taxi to the gate | Any Nairobi address | Main Gate | You pay the car and your ticket. You still need a way to view. Walking the plains is not allowed. |
| Self-drive | Your own vehicle | Any public gate you are sent to | Personal tickets plus the KWS vehicle fee |
| JKIA layover | Arrivals | East Gate | Buy the ticket before you land if you can |
Do not plan to walk in from the bus stop and stroll the park. Game-drive rules keep visitors in vehicles except at signed spots such as the Hippo Pools trail. A ride to the gate only helps if a safari vehicle, or your own car, is going in with you.
Wilson Airport is a light-aircraft field on the city side of the park. It is not a substitute for JKIA. JKIA is the international airport, and the East Gate is the matching entrance.
Gate by gate directions are on the park gates page.
