Rhinos in Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park is managed as rhino habitat inside the city. Black rhinos are the species it is known for. White rhinos have also been recorded here. You view them from the vehicle.

Do not ask the guide to leave the road for a closer photograph. The animal is wild, the horn is the reason it is protected, and the track is the legal place to stop. A rhino lying in short grass, which is what many visitors actually see, is a proper sighting.

Rhinos are not on a timetable. Guides look for them on the open southern plains.

The Ivory Burning Site, just inside the Main Gate, is the public monument to Kenya's ivory burns, including 1989 and 2016. It is a short stop about the trade, not a rhino sighting. The animals are further into the park.

Look for rhinos on a half-day private game drive at $300 per group (your group only, park fees paid separately), or join the weekend Land Cruiser drive from KSh 4,500 per person.
