Leopards in Nairobi National Park

Leopards are in the park. Most visitors do not see one. The honest booking is a drive that will look properly, not a drive that promises a cat in a tree.

Woodland and grass along the Lang'ata side of Nairobi National Park, leopard country more than open plain

The places guides slow down are the river lines and the thicker bush, including the Mokoyeti, rather than the short-grass plains where zebra are obvious. A leopard can be in a tree over the road and still be missed if the vehicle is moving for a gate time.

That is the practical difference between a standard half-day and a photography safari. The photo drive is allowed to wait. It is not allowed to drive off the road, and it is not a tracking guarantee. If you have one morning and you want a broader look at the park, book the normal half-day and treat a leopard as a bonus.

Do not bring a spotlight on a day drive, and do not ask to walk into the thicket. The rules exist because the animal is hunting, not performing.

Look for a leopard on a half-day private game drive at $300 per group (your group only, park fees paid separately), or join the weekend Land Cruiser drive from KSh 4,500 per person.
