Giraffes in Nairobi National Park
The giraffes inside the park are Maasai giraffes on open grass. The giraffes at the Giraffe Centre in Lang'ata are Rothschild's giraffes at a sanctuary. Booking one does not book the other.
The skyline photograph is the picture most visitors want, and it is a fair hope on a normal drive. The city is on the northern edge of the park. A giraffe in the middle distance with towers behind it is a Nairobi National Park frame, not a composite. It still depends on where the herd is feeding that morning.
If you only have time for one giraffe experience, decide what you want. The park is the wild herd and the game drive. The Centre is a raised platform, a ticket the Centre sells itself, and a reliable close look. A full day can do the park first and the Centre after you exit. Doing the Centre first spends the cool hour in Lang'ata.
Look for giraffes on a half-day private game drive at $300 per group (your group only, park fees paid separately), or join the weekend Land Cruiser drive from KSh 4,500 per person.
More animal guides: buffalo, hippos, cheetahs, birds and leopards, with where and when each is usually seen.
